HOW TO SEW LACE
Due to the delicacy of the lace, you would think that its sewing requires real meticulous work. However, non-beaded lace is probably the easiest to sew as it can be machine sewn. Here are a few tips that make it easier. Like with other sewing projects prepare the lace fabric by checking the face and direction of the lace in line with your pattern. Then cut it flat according to the pattern, pinning and weighting the fabric on a large table so that it doesn't move. The sewing needle must be new, sharp and fine (if the embroidery on the lace is dense you may need to swap to a thicker needle). It is also advisable to match your thread to the lace that you are sewing. Aligning pattern pieces is probably the most difficult element of the project so please ensure you check the pattern repeat on your lace and make sure you order enough to allow for this.
The sewing machine should be adjusted under low tension. Regarding the stitch, it is better to opt for a 2mm zigzag stitch if you are working with stretch lace. Otherwise, a straight stitch will be perfect (you might consider zigzag for a more open weave lace too).
