Spring 2020: New Bridal Fashion Trends
Bridal Fashion Week was as exciting as ever, with lots of hot new trends emerging for the Spring 2020 season. Here we look at three of the hottest so, if you're a fashion-forward designer or bride-to-be, you're not going to want to miss it...
Long, lovely and lusciously lightweight, sheer sleeves were big news on the couture runways at Bridal Fashion Week. On sheath and A-line gowns, this material often features embroidered floral motifs and, with more daring naked silhouettes, gives dimensional relief to embellished bodices. Designers who favoured the sheer sleeves look included Amsale, Watters and Mira Zwillinger.
In recent seasons, corset-top and V-back gowns were the styles in which to show a bit of skin. For next spring, the emphasised bodice gives way to an emphasised leg, with soaring, thigh-length slits creating risky but oh-so-satisfying looks. Justin Alexander and Oscar de la Renta both went for this wild look with their Spring 2020 gowns.
Off-the-Shoulder Puff Sleeves
Designer Pierpaolo Piccioli has been responsible for some of the most influential red carpet looks recently, his flamboyant dresses worn by stars including Tracee Ellis Ross and Lady Gaga. Bridal brands have taken his ideas further, creating dramatic silhouettes in their bridal gowns. Off-the-shoulder styles featuring voluminous short sleeves look set to be big news for spring next year, with designers such as Lela Rose, Anne Barge and Viktor & Rolf embracing the look.
