Bridal design is big business and that's why there are so many designers and dressmakers vying for attention on the couture scene. Among the many talented designers there are some that have received both critical acclaim and international success, being influential, unique and seriously sumptuous all at the same time.
In the first article of a regular feature focusing on these jewel-in-the-crown designers, we look at the life and work of Monique Lhuillier.
Monique is a Filipino-American and quickly became recognized around the world as one of the leading clothing designers after her brand was established in 1996. She produces both bespoke and ready-to-wear wedding dresses, bridal party wear and evening gowns of impeccable quality, earning her the coveted Best Bridal Fashion Show title at the 2017 Elle International Bridal Awards.
Wedding gowns were not originally part of Monique's work until after her own wedding. During the planning stages, Monique quickly became frustrated with a market that was 'in need of updating' and so decided to make good use of her fashion degree by creating her own dress. Not content with this, she also designed clothing for bridesmaids and other wedding guests.
The clothing she created gained such attention that Monique realized that a business opportunity had presented itself. Taking on her new husband as CEO, she opened her first retail store in 2001, receiving critical acclaim and shaking up the bridalwear industry. The store was a great success and was quickly followed by others, all of which have been equally successful.
Monique now boasts a truly stellar client list. Among many others, she has designed clothing for Taylor Swift, Melania Trump, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Michelle Obama, Demi Lovato, Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Lopez.
World-class designers like Monique demand instant access to the widest selection of materials, all of which must be of superlative quality. That's what we conistently deliver here at Bridal Fabrics and we are proud to count Monqiue as one of our customers.
