Lani van Rooyen, an extremely talented designer, recently sent us some absolutely stunning photographs of one of her latest, one-of-a-kind creations made using wedding dress material from Platinum Bridal Fabrics. Ayesha, the bride, was absolutely thrilled with the dress and, when asked how she felt, said that she was ‘beyond happy’ with the end result.
Lani has always had an interest in fashion design and went on to study the subject in her native country of South Africa. She excelled, beating off stiff competition to win both coveted titles of Best Art Student and Best Student Design. Soon after leaving education, Lani established a studio from where she designed and manufactured a diverse range of garments, quickly discovering that her true passion was for wedding gowns. After a long period spent travelling and gaining valuable experience, Lani moved with her husband to Canada and established R O O Y Couture & Consulting in 2009.
To create the dress shown in these beautiful pictures, Lani used a number of Mistral crystal embroideries from Platinum Bridal Fabrics. This beautiful wedding embellishment has a unique and arresting shape, formed from two opposing teardrops separated by an oval central area. Heavily crystallised to give a dazzling and shimmering effect, Mistral crystal motifs are emblazoned with a choice selection of beads, sequins and diamantes, each of which has been skilfully embroidered by hand onto the finest ivory tulle. This design is normally used at the waist though, as is clear from the photographs, a skilled and creative designer like Lani can break all the rules and still be right.
