Established in 1946 and taking place in one of France's most affluent and attractive regions, the Cannes Film Festival is the world's most prestigious event of its type. Attracting many influential filmmakers, writers, actors and other celebrities, the festival usually takes place in May and, during that month, its red carpet is one of the most heavily-photographed locations on the planet. The last festival in May 2013 saw legendary film director Steven Spielberg take on the role of President of the Jury and the reputations of the festival guests in attendance were no less stellar.
Since her rise to fame as a member of the manufactured pop group Girls Aloud, Cheryl Cole has become a style and fashion icon. As the face of L'Oréal and a popular television personality, Cheryl's style is constantly scrutinised by the watching fashion world and she almost always manages to wow the crowds. At the Cannes Film Festival 2013, Cheryl chose to wear a truly magnificent sheer gown created by designer Zuhair Murad; with a deep russet colour and sparkling sequins, the dress was the talking point of the evening.
The sense of drama, luxury, decadence and excitement given by Cheryl's gorgeous dress can be easily matched with the use of Victoria russet lace, an elaborately-designed fabric that comprises a triptych of differently-sized floral motifs. Each flower in these motifs features a corded, embroidered construction that has been elegantly and evocatively highlighted with beads, sequins and a single fine filigree thread of the most reflective silver colouration. Victoria lace has a border which, with expert embroidery providing an entrancing effect of shading, contains clusters of pretty sequinned flowers leading to a tightly-scalloped, almost zigzag edge that fully embraces the trend for clean, geometric lines.
