- Brocades are a popular choice and Bridal Fabrics are the only remaining weaver of this fabric in the UK. The brocade fabrics have a raised pattern to them and can be very striking to the eye. They are used within the bodices of bridal gowns as well as the waistcoats and cravats of groom attire.However appealing to the eye they may be and however beautiful they are they are not suitable for overseas weddings in hot climates due to their thickness. The bride or groom would simply sweat although many do still have them as part of their dress or groom attire.
- Duchess Satin is another popular request for both brides and bridesmaids dresses. It is ideal for adding structure to a dress as it has stiff but shiny qualities. Due to this stiffness it is not suitable for use in dresses which are required to be floaty.Due to its firm quality, although duchess satin can be used in dresses which are to be worn abroad or in warm temperatures it is not advised. One of the only items which we wouldn’t recommend bridal lace for is within a dress that has a lot of seams as it is hard to get the pattern to match.It is a popular choice for both summer weddings, winter weddings and weddings abroad as the lace can be used to add sleeves in cold weather whilst being decorative in hot weather.
- Taffeta is a very papery and lightweight material which as the bride moves it will make a rustling noise. It is great for creating wedding dresses which are big and have a full skirt. It is a popular choice in “fairytale princess” dresses where the brides want big dresses like the ones they see in Disney films and the like. If you are wanting a smooth finish though then taffeta isn’t for you as it will crinkle easily. It is a popular choice for many summer weddings and weddings abroad where the weather will be hot due to its papery and lightweight qualities.
- Tulle has a soft and beautiful appearance and hangs extremely well. It is a popular choice for use in a brides wedding veil and as an under layer to a skirt.
