A beautiful period brocade wedding dress

We absolutely adore receiving pictures of our brides on their wedding day.  Kym Armstrong came to visit our showroom in July 2022 and, with help from team member Catherine, narrowed in on woven brocade fabric for her wedding dress design.  With a very specific vision of a Victorian period design with a large, gathered skirt with a bustle, Kym had a clear image of what she wanted to achieve and was taking on the job of making it herself.  As a hobbyist sewist for many years, this was a big project but Kym was determined to take ownership and create the wedding dress of her dreams herself.

After viewing a range of different designs, Kym settled on an elegant jacquard woven fabric, manufactured here in Lancashire, called Malaga.  This brocade measures 126 cm (50") wide that is available in a range of colors as well as the traditional ivory and white bridal colors.  Looking through the color options of Coral, Blush, Celeste, Gold and Silver, Kym settled on the Coral color, favoring the contrast between the ivory base and the pink color.  She also liked the sweeping design.

Kym sensibly brought her pattern with her so, with Catherine's help, was able to lay her pattern out across the fabric to get a sense of scale and a good idea of the quantity of fabric she needed too.

We are absolutely delighted to see the finished dress and we think Kym looks absolutely stunning.  What a great job Kym!

The pink trim you can see on the sleeves, neckline and waist are made from our Duchess Satin Contessa in Antique Rose.
