The Evolution of Bridal Lace and the Wedding Gown

When you’re in the market for a washcloth, a box of paperclips, a tin of sardines or any other such everyday item, you go out and buy it: simple as that. When it comes to those special items though, like a car, a sofa or your once-in-a-lifetime wedding gown (unless you’re Liz Taylor), then a much longer, more complex but ultimately more enjoyable and rewarding process has to be set in motion.

Our washcloth, paperclips and sardines, though they may be useful and necessary, are not really very interesting and this is because they essentially never change. Items like cars, sofas and wedding gowns are constantly evolving, surprising us at every turn and keeping interest high. Designers just keep finding new ways to use fabrics to ever-more glorious effect and we are right along on the journey with them, sharing our choicest finds with you.

There are two ways to appreciate the evolution of the wedding gown and the fabrics used to create it, both of which offer profound insights into style and can be the perfect way to find the perfect lace for your perfect gown! We think the best way is the New/Old route: this means starting your search with the very newest, most contemporary lace designs and following the trail backwards until you find it.

Bridal Lace and the Wedding GownChoosing awedding lace for your gown is a lot like falling in love and it is a different, personal experience for every woman. For some women, it’s all about having fun and going wild, playing the field a little bit and trying out lots of samples before deciding which lace (or partner!) has all the qualities she wants. For others, a smaller and more exclusive group prevent her from being spoiled for choice though there’s always the chance that the very next lace you look at could be the right one! And, for those lucky few, it is simply love at first sight.

Whatever method brings you and YOUR lace together, it’s going to happen right here on our website and we would like to invite you to start the search right NOW with our newest wedding lace: the delightful, daring, delicious, decadent Dimitra!

Three Ivory Laces That All Want YOU...

Hands up who likes wedding lace! Put the other hand up too if you like IVORY wedding lace! Well you haven’t got another hand to raise so we are just going to go on the assumption (crazy as it may be) that you would LOVE some new designs of ivory wedding lace to add in to the mix! Very well bride's, step this way. We have some treats for you today.

Ivory is a classic, if not THE classic, wedding gown colour, right up there along with white, In fact, though other colours of lace come and go with fashion, white and ivory lace remain in the top two all-time favorite spots in an uneasy truce, with one being slightly more popular than the other for a time before the position shifts back. Ivory is currently experiencing a peak and so these laces could not have arrived at a better time,

We will waste no more time as the laces, full of personality as they are, have been impatient to be presented since i started writing. In no particular order, the new ivory additions to our extensive collection are:

Ivory corded lace priyaDimitra

Appearing to exist only due to some unknown yet powerful breach in the laws of physics, seemingly held together only by cleverly braided air, this is a hypnotic fabric that creates a sensation way out of proportion to its barely-there physical essence. It is space age yet timeless. Breathtaking doesn't come close!

Priya

Black raschel lace maverickAn ivory border lace like DImitra, the two bear only a passing resemblance. This is not to say that Priya does not have its own unique and innate charm, which is presented more subtly than Dimitra yet somehow still maintains a vibrant and distinct charm. Fall for both and you may have a hard time deciding!

Maverick

Truly living up to its name, Maverick the the wild card who promises an exciting time Ivory corded lace dimitrafrom the word go. Originally considered so dramatic in style that it was exclusively rendered in black, the indomitable Maverick is now available in ivory, offering a softer look. None of the style drama has been taken away in the colour change and Maverick remains as feisty, enticing and evocative as ever.

Two may be a company but three's not always a crowd, as this exquisite ensemble proves. Which is your favorite? We would love to hear your opinions. Get in touch today!

Our Wedding Lace at Exclusive UK Show...

Platinum fabricOne  of the most important fabric trade shows in England is Textile Forum, The Fashion Fabric Show. It takes place twice a year and representatives from Wedding Dress Fabrics will once again be showcasing our newest fabrics, along with a selection of classic favourites that have stood the test of time. Among an exclusive array of industry professionals, dressmakers, fabric designers and major retail decision-makers, we will be in attendance for both days of the prestigious event, as we have done in many previous years.

Textile Forum started back in 2002 and quickly blew up to become a must-attend event on every major fashion calendar. Thousands of people, more and more at each event, show up to network and examine the latest designs. From the big-name retailers to independent boutique owners, everyone is buzzing with excitement as the event unfolds over two days, welcoming anyone with a connection to the trade. It is supported by many organisations and happens two times a year, providing an ideal platform for us to exhibit our exciting, unique and highly-professional selection of wedding dress material.

Yellow lace angelaOne of the most exciting parts of the event is not connected with fabric at all but is simply the venue itself. Named after its address, One Marylebone, the glamourous listed building was once an historic church and has been transformed into a luxurious, fully equipped conference and events centre, well able to cater to all the needs of the many visitors that will walk through its doors over the coming two days.

Just 45 exhibitors will be showcasing to the crowds, of which we are extremely proud to number. A constant source of inspiration to everyone from brides to couture bridal designers, our vast and unmatched range of wedding dress fabrics will, once again, be a major draw and inspiration, particularly to young, up and coming designers fresh from university.

Wedding Lace at Exclusive UK Show
